Course Introduction
Hypoxia is a pathological condition in which the body or a part of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply to the tissue level. It can be generalized, affecting the whole body, or local, affecting a part of the body. Variations in arterial oxygen concentrations can be part of the normal physiology, for example, during strenuous physical exercise.
Course Description
This course will educate students about the signs and symptoms associated with hypoxia. It is a state of reduced oxygen pressure below a critical threshold, restricting the function of organs, tissues, and cells.
Course learning objective
- Define and understand the basic mechanisms of hypoxia
- Know how each of the mentioned complications can lead to the other, creating a syndrome
- Know how to protect other from developing further complications.
Frequently used Terminology
Hypoxia: Hypoxia is low oxygen in the tissues when blood does not carry enough oxygen to the tissues to meet your body’s needs.
Oxygen: A colorless, odorless reactive gas. Oxygen forms about 20 percent of the earth’s atmosphere, and is the most abundant element in the earth.
