Course Introduction
Thermography is a method of inspecting electrical and mechanical equipment by obtaining heat distribution pictures. This inspection method is based on the fact that most components in a system show an increase in temperature when malfunctioning. The increase in temperature in an electrical circuit could be due to loose connections or a worn bearing in the case of mechanical equipment. By observing the heat patterns in operational system components, faults can be located and their seriousness evaluated.
Course Description
This course will educate students of the many benefits of thermography in contrast to other options which are not as beneficial. Most importantly is its ability to track movement in the dark at great distances. Thermography is now been used with the medical community, as well as other industries for diagnostic purposes.
patient privacy. This law is to “mandate new security standards to protect an individual’s health information, while permitting the appropriate access and use of that information by health care providers, clearinghouses, and health plans.”
Course learning objective
On completion of this course, students should be able to correctly define and describe Thermography and make informed choices towards their health.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS):
Is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services responsible for administration of several key federal health care programs. Such as Medicare (the federal health insurance program for seniors, people with end-stage renal disease, and those with disabilities) and Medicaid (the federal needs-based program), CMS oversees the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), among other services.
Frequently used Terminology
- Thermography: (Medical thermal imaging,) or thermography is a high-tech health screening tool (a high-definition infrared camera) that creates a digital map of the body and temperature patterns. These patterns show abnormalities that can be indicative of inflammation or (abnormal heat spots on the body)
- Mammography: A technique using X-rays to diagnose and locate tumors of the breasts. It uses low-radiation (soft) X-rays and specially designed apparatus to reveal density changes that might imply cancer. Mammography is used in cases of suspected breast cancer and as a screening procedure on groups of women.
